2011 Conference Review

Review

Between 11 and 14 October, MineRP (previously GMSI / Gijima Mining) held our 9th Annual Mine Planning Conference in Cape Town, where we also launched our new brand to the world.
Always known for the high levels of enterprise integration and collaboration between our own mining technical applications, MineRP also went the extra mile and invited other providers to the mining industry to also share in the proceedings.

Says Pieter Nel, president of MineRP: “To MineRP, investing in standardisation and collaboration is a non-negotiable. With the MineRP solutions suite sharing the company name, we are determined to compete and collaborate with other software vendors in order to serve the mining industry. The company took a big step in this direction by inviting our peers to our conference.”
Sponsoring companies included mining technical solutions providers such as Gemcom Software International and Runge, as well as the Cyest Corporation. A further focus area of the conference was on standardisation in the mining industry (from both technological and process points of view). As a leader in process standardisation and optimisation, RealIRM also sponsored the MineRP Mine Planning Conference.

Marni Rabasso, Gemcom Software International’s Director of Product Management remarked at a press conference held after the conference that the choice to attend the conference at MineRP’s invitation was ‘easy’. In her opinion collaboration between the companies to provide software systems that integrate easily well is going to allow these companies to provide the solutions that their clients ultimately need.
“If you look at one of the big market problems out there it is the skills shortage and the fact that our customers have a really tough time finding the personnel that they need. Providing systems where the information can be shared and the applications themselves are as easy to use as possible is going to benefit our market. That’s why we’re in business, so that’s why we’re here,” she elaborated.
This sentiment was shared by Richard Jennings of Runge (MRM Mining Services GM), who also remarked that Mining Technical Solutions providers will not stop competing, but that better integration between multiple vendor solutions from initial planning to mine closure remains high rpiority
